Hello there my dear, close, personal friend. How nice of you to humour me.

My name is Douaine ( sounds like Duane or Dwayne, not Dianne or Dawn !!! )
I live in the peaceful pueblo of Hamilton in the heart of the Waikato region of New Zealand.
There are a lot of sheep here ! They are used for a lot of practical things.
There are a lot of university students here also. They aren't !
( Death threats are automatically filtered by my ISP and forwarded to the FBI )

But, seriously folks - When I was on my way to your browser I met this cute little alias on the IRC...

Enough of the frivolities - on with the profile ...

I am in the dirty business of computer networking, repairing, programming, etc.
Designing and prototyping electronic "stuff" is also a great part of my existence.
( Can any of you say "discrete components" ? --- Can any of you remember ? )
I have lived on the WWWeb for several years now - What a kick in the cortex !
FTP, IRC, TCP/IP, Archie, Veronica - Acronyms and Archie comics - all became friends.
With many and varied interests, surfin' the WWWaves has never bored this Webhead.
A few of my interests ( and maybe yours ? ) are listed below.
Anything else you can think of probably interests me also, it just doesn't realise it yet.

The Death of the Art of Electronics

One of my greatest concerns is the rapidly dying art of electronics - especially in New Zealand.
I'm not talking about the boring old "I can whip together a PC with a few cards and one screw-
driver" type mentality. I'm talking about the sort of people who know what the following mean :
741, 555, 3914, 2N3055, 8021, 7404, BC547, 4066, 1489, CMOS, TTL, SCR, Op-Amp
AND CARE !

first WWW-Electronics Club then please drop me an e-line to electronics@webhead.gen.nz
We must do something to stop the downfall of the art. Many of you, I'm sure, have become
disillusioned with the "we're just here to sell walkmans" attitude of the straight-from-school staff
employed by most of the local electronic component suppliers. I know components are available
from major supply houses but, for most, these are inaccessible and only supply large quantities.
I encourage all of you who practice the art to take youngers under wing and guide them toward
the light - One day it will fade and C3PO will be doing the job for us.
